Our Approach
Our Team

Jan Simon, LCSW

I completed my graduate degree in clinical social work at the University of Chicago in 1967 and have been practicing in the field to the present time I have been licensed in California since 1972 and shared a private practice with my psychiatrist husband until his death in May 2025

I taught graduate students in clinical social work at California State University Long Beach for twenty five years

I currently share Simon Therapy California with the youngest of my three sons who is a licensed marriage and family therapist.he practices in Long Beach and I have a psychotherapy practice in Rancho Palos Verdes and we both also work virtually.

My orientation is psychodynamic and psychoanalytic. I strongly believe the most effective therapy empowers patients to understand how past experiences impact our relationships in the present.

Daniel Simon, LMFT, PhD

Life can present challenges that take two to process and understand. I believe a good therapeutic relationship is a dynamic conversation that can change your perspective and positively impact your everyday life. I offer a trained empathic ear, an inquisitive mind, and a safe environment to explore your thoughts and feelings about whatever is troubling you.

I am able to relate and connect to a broad range of life experiences as I’ve worn many hats and taken many life paths. Among other professions, I’ve worked as an arborist, a journalist, an advice columnist, a musician, and a history professor. I was raised by mental health professionals who helped me develop a therapist’s ear and inspired me to help people.

My practice engages with issues like depression, anxiety, and stress. I can help you process fears, insecurities and interpersonal difficulties you have with friends and family. Together, we can explore your past and present to prepare for a better and brighter future.
